Looking Ahead
We will have MOMS MEET a brief fellowship and study time for mothers of young children:
9:00-9:45 AM on the Sundays of Dec. 6, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 7.
We hope this will give our busiest, people, our young mothers a chance to get to know one another and find some inspiration for their very full days. Babysitting and breakfast provided, for both children and Moms. Sponsored by Valley Deacons.
Dear Parents,
Children and youth grades 1-senior high are invited to join the Youth

Book Club
BOOK GROUP DISCUSSION, on GIFT FROM THE SEA, by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
The group was surprised by how much we enjoyed the book, and how relevant it seemed, 54 years after it was first published. Using an interesting premise, Lindbergh equates a particular shell with particular phase in life. In 'Channeled Whelk", she speaks of women's need to simplify our lives, or to provide short opportunities to take a break from chronic multitasking. In 'Oyster Shell' she speaks of the stage in life when a family is both rooted and growing, and the particular joys and challenges it brings. In 'Argonuauta' she writes of the later stage in life as being a time of 'letting go', and learning to find God in both the ebb and flow of life. She closes her chapter with
"Perhaps this is the most important thing for me to take back (to her home in CT) from beach living: simply the memory that each cycle of the tide is valid; each cycle of the wave is valid; each cycle of a relationship is valid. And my shells? I can sweep them all into my pocket. They are only there to remind me that the sea recedes and returns eternally."
"Glad and Generous Hearts" (Acts 2:46)
Valley continues in strength of Christian discipleship, due, in large part,
to the glad and generous hearts of you, its members. Much of this is
generally unseen, unknown, and needs to be lifted up from time to time,
so we remember and give thanks. In recent months, generous hearts
have anonymously paid off our Union Savings loan, and allowed us to plan
for a much needed new furnace (see Session and Finance/Stewardship
articles). Generous hearts plan and provide for the beauty of our sanctuary,
and the planning of many worship details. Generous hearts keep a watchful
eye, tending on the special needs of Valley; our people, our building, our
grounds, our ministry. Dorothy Day meals are made; rides given to doctors' offices, people are visited, someone receives a meal, a hug, a phone call at just the right time. Coffee is purchased, and made, the kitchen is cleaned, paper towels get replaced, flowers are planted or delivered . . . so many, many, glad and generous hearts make up this part of the body of Christ. On behalf of the congregation, thank you, all!
