The name of "our lamb" is Morning Glory. Thank you for the wonderful
response to voting with food and $$. The $$ will be used to provide a Thanksgiving "basket" to Brookfield Social Services. Half of the food collection will be taken to the Methodist Church in New Milford to help replenish its shelves and half will be taken to Newtown's food pantry.
Your response to the Mini Global Marketplace exceeded expectations. You purchased items amounting to a little over $1,200.00 from the four organizations and made life easier for women and children in Malawi, Kenya, Thailand and Pakistan! Also, $100.00 was contributed to
"Wells for Malawi".
The soccer items and backpacks were mailed to Haiti recently also and
several contributions are being sent to various area organizations, including one to the "Bloom where you are planted" program at Rogers Park which Nancy Munn is coordinating.
Of particular concern now is the opening of the Interfaith Overflow Shelter at the Congregational Church of Danbury (on Deer Hill Avenue, across from City Hall). Dan Cunningham is our coordinator. We have three men who have volunteered this year. The Shelter usually starts around November 15th and opens nightly when the temperature is 40 degrees at 6 p.m. If the volunteer situation stays the same this year, Valley will be called upon to help staff part of a week about once every six weeks. The Shelter usually closes the end of March or first part of April depending on the weather. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Dan. (The first time you are scheduled, you will have one of the other volunteers stay with you.)
The needs continue to be great but if we all do a little, it will make a difference.

VPW’S ANGEL SHARING TREE WILL GO “UP” ON NOVEMBER 29TH.
It is our one yearly hands-on mission initiative. We have two
families so far. If you know of a family that could use some
help this Christmas, please speak with me. Details are: we
provide three items per person with each item having a value of
no more than $50.00. In order for me to prepare the envelopes
and keep accurate records, please contact me with family
information before November 15th. If you have questions, please
feel free to call, e-mail or speak to me on Sunday morning.
The Angel Sharing Tree gifts should be brought back to church by
December 13th. This allows sufficient time for the organization, or person , to
make arrangements for deliveries.
The Presbyterian Church has a program called “Enough for Everyone” which
contains ideas for an alternative Thanksgiving and reclaiming Advent and
Christmas. The website is: www.pcusa.org/justliving. The Thanksgiving pamphlet talks about enacting our faith at the table and engaging in Christian
hospitality by welcoming strangers and providing for those in need. The
Advent/Christmas one is to help celebrate the birth of Christ in more meaningful ways than mainstream culture provides.
